Engine Failure & Condition Assessment

Gas / diesel internal combustion engine, generator set, marine engine failure and condition assessment expertise

Believe it or not there are specialists who know about why engines fail and who are hired by disgruntled purchasers, insurance loss adjusters, and often disgruntled engine suppliers.

Engines can cost up to £40million for a large marine engine, or £1/2 million for a typical 1MWe gas engine chp unit, so when these fail it is worth finding out why.

Engines rarely fail due to inherent defects in the design or manufacture, though this is far from unknown – more often it is due to:

  • Mis-installation
  • Mal-operation
  • Lack of maintenance
  • Not being used for the duty intended.

When things go wrong users may  need to call in the engine specialist.  Here is a typical one:

  1. I would be interested in discussing the prevalence of engine performance problems caused by microbial contamination of fuels.

  2. Hello Roger,

I am the sales engineer for Karl Storz who manufacture inspection solutions for industrial applications.

I have had interest from various engine manufacturers including Finning and JCB regarding using our products for service and maintenance and thought that our products may be of use to your team of engineers for engine/gear box inspections, in particular, cylinders, valves, bearings and seals which cannot be seen without disassembly.

Endoscopic inspections are particularly useful when finding faults which may be under warranty and quick analysis is needed to minimise labour costs.

I can arrange a visit your site when I am in the region to demonstrate our inspection products to give you a real example of the capabilities for your applications.

    Best regards

    Daniel
