What is it: Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), the process of capturing carbon emissions when fossil fuels are burnt on large scales such as during the power generation process, has been identified as having a key role in meeting the UK’s pressing climate change targets. CCS has the potential to reduce emissions by coal fired power stations by 80-90 percent, making the process much cleaner and greatly contributing to the UK’s goal of reducing carbon emissions to 50 percent of 1990 levels by 2050.
However, the progress in the UK has met with delays in recent years. The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) is publishing a new report CCS – Time to Deliver looking at what steps are needed to deliver CCS in the UK.
Media are invited to join the ICE at an event to launch the report on Tuesday 27th October. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentations.
Speakers:
* Geoff French, ICE Vice President
* Alistair Rennie, Carbon Capture and Storage Association
* Greg Barker, Conservative MP
* Ian Templeton, Climate Change Capital.
When is it: Tuesday 27 October 2009, 9.30 – 11.30am
Where is it: Institution of Civil Engineers, 1 Great George Street, Westminster SW1P 3AA.

Addendum:
Hi Charles,
Thought this might be of interest.
I’m actually at another CCS conference today and saw a very good talk by Prof Haszledean from Edinburgh Uni – he’s pro but thinks it is going nowhere for a variety of reasons.
Anyway, hope you have a fine weekend,
Nick
